The following information is required to ensure that each customer account is unique and secure. SSNs will not be shared with DEM or any law enforcement agent. You can also review our Frequently Asked Questions document, which further explains why we are asking for this information.
If you can't or choose not to provide an SSN or passport number, you will need to visit the DEM headquarters Boating Office at 235 Promenade Street, Providence, RI 02908-5767 to have your unique customer account created and verified. The office hours of operation are M-F 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. You will need to provide another form of ID (state-issued driver’s license, or military ID). Once created and verified, you will be able to make purchases via the RIO website or at authorized agents.
